The Fit for Life Program was created using the Michigan Department of Education Physical Education State Standards. The recommended class time for students to meet all these goals is 150 minutes a week. Unfortunately, most schools in Michigan, including Discovery and Explorer, don't have the resources or space to accommodate this goal. Based on the current schedule, students at Discovery and Explorer average 200-250 minutes of physical activity a week (usually four or five 50 minute classes), once every three weeks. It is the goal of the program to meet as many of these standards as we can by the time students complete fifth grade. The focus of Fit for Life curriculum is listed under the Fit for Life Program link. To see the MDE P.E. State Standards go to the website www.michigan.gov/mde
