I can” in Fit for Life
Expected outcomes for students to achieve by the end of 5th grade.
- I can run, hop, jump, gallop and skip with varying degrees of effort while traveling in straight, curved and zigzag pathways.
- I can travel forward, sideways, backward, clockwise and counterclockwise at different levels while participating in isolated activities.
- I can safely move my body in relationship to myself and others around me while participating in Fit for Life activities.
- I can balance, bend, stretch, curl, twist, turn, push and pull my body in various ways while maintaining personal space.
- I can explain and/or demonstrate selected elements of the mature form for the roll, underhand throw and overhand throw.
- I can explain and/or demonstrate selected elements of the mature form for the catch, kick and hand dribble.
- I can participate in and describe many of the immediate effects of moderate to vigorous physical activity.
- I can describe and participate in activities that increase flexibility and muscular strength.
- I can use pedometers and other technology as a means to improve my overall fitness level.
- I can exhibit responsibility, cooperation, best effort, compassion and constructive competition while participating in Fit for Life activities.
(Academic Related Curriculum (ARC) Report Card
Students in Discovery and Explorer Elementary Schools are graded on "participation" in their Academic Related Curriculum (ARC) classes: Visual Art, Discovery Fit for Life, Explorer Fit for Life, Music, Spanish and S.T.E.A.M. Students attend each class once a week for 50 minutes.
“Participation” is understood to mean that the student:
Is an ACTIVE LISTENER – who listens and follows directions to the best of his/her ability.
Gives QUALITY EFFORT – putting forth his/her best attempt in any situation.
Is a COOPERATIVE learner – who shares, is respectful, and cooperative with others.
3 = Consistently meets grade level expectations of participation
2 = Inconsistently meets grade level expectations of participation
1 = Rarely meets grade level expectations of participation
